Day tour for groups: Lake Starnberg

Lake Starnberg, the place of destiny: Ludwig and Sisi

King Ludwig II and Empress Elisabeth, better known as Sisi, had more than just family ties. Ludwig and his great cousin were true kindred spirits. Visit with us the places on Lake Starnberg where Sisi grew up, where the two of them discussed life and love, and where the ‘Kini’ drowned in tragic circumstances.

Lake Starnberg is about half an hour's drive south of Munich. You can book a tour there with us as a day tour or as a half-day tour, accompanied by one of our certified guides. The programme can be designed entirely according to your wishes. In summer, for example, it is possible to combine the tour in the footsteps of Sisi and King Ludwig II with a boat trip on Lake Starnberg.

In addition to the votive chapel with the memorial cross in memory of King Ludwig's death at Schloss Berg, our guide will also be happy to show you what Starnberg is all about today - from its historic boathouses to the luxury villas of its many wealthy citizens. It is also possible to visit the listed St Joseph's Church in the immediate vicinity of Starnberg Castle and Castle Park.

Special places for Sisi fans - from the hotel to the Rose Island

If you are particularly interested in the life of Sisi, you should visit the following places: The Empress Elisabeth Museum in the historic railway station in Feldafing, where Sisi arrived when she visited her homeland in her years as empress, and the Hotel Kaiserin Elisabeth, where she stayed.

The wooden ferry takes you to Roseninsel (island), the site of conspiratorial meetings between Ludwig and Sisi. On the island, you can discover the casino of King Maximilian II (father of Ludwig II) and a landscaped garden with some historical rose varieties.

For culture enthusiasts: The Buchheim Museum in Bernried

If you are in the mood for art and culture, combine your tour to Lake Starnberg with a visit to the Buchheim Museum in Bernried and a subsequent stroll through the town, which is one of the most beautiful in Upper Bavaria.
